With literally thousands of lakes to choose from, it’s no wonder boating is such a popular activity in the north woods. Plan a day of boating during your trip to Minocqua and you’re sure to have a great time.
You can rent a boat or bring your own, then water ski, fish, swim, or just tool around and see the sites of the beautiful north woods. The majority of area lakes do have public boat landings, but some do not or are no-motor lakes, so be sure to do some research and plan ahead.
If you want to make a day of it, you can park your boat at Albee's Yacht Club Bar & Grill on Lake Minocqua and grab a bite and a beverage, or pick up food to go right on the lake.
Many area resorts offer boat rentals, including non-motorized varieties such as kayaks and canoes. Taking a paddle around a lake is a relaxing and quiet way to experience the north woods, and your chances of seeing some wildlife or interesting birds is greater without the noise of a motor announcing your arrival wherever you go. Flat water paddling is not overly strenuous, and sit-on-top kayaks and canoes are straightforward vessels that are fairly simple to maneuver and steer. Any rental outfitter will be happy to provide you with a lesson as well as personal flotation devices.
Plan to bring your own power boat or rent one from a local outfitter and visit a different lake each day. Pick up a one- or two-person kayak or canoe and paddle around at your leisure. Boating is a perfect way to get outside for the day during your visit to the Minocqua area.
