Colorama happens each fall when the leaves begin to change in the north woods, and the forests become infused with brilliant shades of gold, red, orange and yellow. A number of local events and celebrations are planned during the fall color season in the Lakeland area of Minocqua, Woodruff, and Arbor Vitae as well as in surrounding communities.
Generally, peak colors can be seen from the last two weeks of September through the first two weeks of October. There are a number of fall color tours you can do on your own, and local outfitters and the Chamber of Commerce are happy to provide you with maps of the area’s best routes.
Tour routes typically range from 5 to 20 miles and take you through some of the most scenic areas of the north woods in their most vibrant season, including lake shores, state parks and private lands. You can easily hike, bike, kayak, canoe or drive your way through the amazing colors of fall’s foliage. Popular trails include rustic roads #58, 59 and 60, and driving tours include Highway 51, Highway 70, Country Club Road and more.
Colorama is greatly loved by photographers, artists, and anyone who enjoys the outdoors. It makes getting outside that much more fun and rewarding, and helps you get a new perspective on a landscape you might take for granted.
Some say that autumn is one of the best times to visit the Minocqua area. The summer crowds have gone, local wineries are celebrating the cranberry harvest, Beef-a-Rama and Colorama are in full swing, insect populations are dwindling and temperatures are perfect – plus the landscape itself is unbelievable.
If you’re planning a trip to Minocqua, you won’t want to miss Colorama when the fall colors are in full effect.
