The city of Minocqua is located in Wisconsin’s 34th Assembly in Oneida County and is home to about 5000 year-round residents. Minocqua is governed by a town chairperson and a four-person board of supervisors rather than a traditional mayor. Town board meetings are held twice each month in the Minocqua Community Building at 415 Menominee Street, which was originally the Minocqua High School. Minutes from board meetings are made available online for community members to review.
The Minocqua Community Building was constructed in 1907 and was added onto in 1935. In the early 80s the building was undergoing renovations when it caught fire and the oldest section of the structure was destroyed. This section was rebuilt and reopened in 1983. Today the Minocqua Community Building is home to the Minocqua Public Library, the Town of Minocqua offices, the Volunteer Fire Department, and meeting rooms.
There are three volunteer fire departments, two local police departments and county sheriff departments that serve the Minocqua area.
