The Minocqua area is ideal for winter sports of all kinds, including ice skating and sledding. There are three different locations you might want to try for ice skating if you’re looking for a maintained surface on which to skate, otherwise head out to the area’s many frozen lakes if you have your own skates, or rent some from a local outfitter and get advice on where to go.
The Lakeland Ice Arena is an indoor ice rink open to the public during scheduled times. It is a non-profit skating facility that supports the development of skating among people of all ages and abilities. The Arena offers various programs for youth to adults including hockey leagues, open skating, figure skating, and learn-to-skate programs. The Lakeland Ice Arena Figure Skating Club also holds skating events such as Skating Around the World on specific dates throughout the year.
Torpy Park in downtown Minocqua is another great option that features an outdoor public ice rink, restrooms and picnic tables. Also available on specific dates is a bonfire and a concession stand, and there are lights for night skating. Brandy Park is another outdoor public ice rink just off Hwy 51 North on Lemma Creek Road.
Some resorts such as The Beacons of Minocqua offer their own ice skating rinks and sledding hills on-site, and may offer skate and sled rentals as well.
Sledding is great at the Minocqua Winter Park and Nordic Center on designated days. The center also hosts a New Year’s Eve sledding party complete with music, a bonfire and food. Another great sledding location not far away is Siroka Field, situated in downtown Rhinelander.
Both sledding and ice skating are fun family activities that everyone will love to try while you’re in the Minocqua area.
