Education is a priority in Minocqua

Wisconsin public schools are ranked among the best in the nation and are administered with the goals of recruiting and retaining quality teachers, using innovation that works, creating safe and respectful schools, requiring accountability for results, and securing fair and sustainable funding.

Minocqua-Hazelhurst-Lake Tomahawk (MHLT) is an elementary school district that serves 550 children in grades K-8 from the communities of Minocqua, Hazelhurst, and Lake Tomahawk. The staff includes 56 teachers. Student achievement results are consistently above state and national averages, typically in the top 25% for students nationwide in reading, language arts, math, science and social studies. A wide range of extracurricular and after-school activities are offered by the district, including summer school.

The Lakeland Union High School District is dedicated to creating a safe, stimulating environment where students may acquire the knowledge, skills and ability to pursue academic, vocational and personal excellence. Lakeland Union High School serves over 800 students and employs 122 faculty and staff, which includes 68 classroom teachers, and an average student/teacher ratio of 19:1. Seventy-two percent of teachers have a Masters in Education or other similar advanced degrees.

Lakeland High offers advanced placement courses in biology, German language, literature & composition, music theory & composition, psychology, Spanish language, US government and politics, and US history. Honors classes are also offered in English, math science and world language.

Nicolet Area Technical College is a public community college situated along Lake Julia just south of the community of Rhinelander, and from outreach centers located within the Nicolet District. The College offers one- and two-year career diplomas and degrees, liberal arts university transfer studies, and a comprehensive continuing education program. The college was founded in 1967 and offers degrees in architecture and construction, arts, communications, business, health sciences, hospitality, culinary arts, human services, early childhood education, information technology, law, public safety, security and much more.
