Minocqua Skiing & Snowshoeing

Featured Story
Hit the ski trails in Minocqua, Wisconsin.
Explore the fresh powder when skiing and snowshoeing

The north woods offer almost unlimited opportunities for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing through back- and front-country trails, along lakeshores, old railroad paths, and even across frozen lakes. If you enjoy the beauty, peace and quiet of non-motorized winter activities combined with the comforts of a modern hotel, resort or cabin, Minocqua is the place for you in the winter.

There are numerous trails in the immediate area that accommodate all skill levels. Local outfitters offer ski and snowshoe rentals if you don’t have your own or don’t want to travel with them, and can also provide maps and advice and the best places to go.

If you’re looking for instruction, rentals and groomed trails, Minocqua Winter Park and Nordic Center is one of the top cross-country ski areas in the nation with over 75 kilometers of trails. It offers all the amenities you could ask for including a ski shop, café, and childcare.

If you’re interested in snowboarding or downhill skiing, there are a few destinations within an hour’s drive of Minocqua including Powderhorn and Blackjack in Bessemer, Michigan; Whitecap in Montreal, Wisconsin; Indianhead in Wakefield, Michigan; and Granite Peak in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are both excellent ways to see the beautiful north woods landscape, get some physical activity, and just enjoy life. With a little instruction, novices will have no trouble picking up these skills and having a great day out on the snow.

See some wildlife, enjoy the sights and sounds of the forest, get some exercise, relax and warm up in a sauna or hot tub, and top it off with a hot meal and cozy room in a quaint north woods town. It’s the perfect winter experience.
