Spring and summer are some of the best times to be in the north woods. Everything is green and fresh and full of life, and the weather is perfect to be outdoors. The community of Minocqua is in the heart of the north woods and offers so much to do when the weather is warm.
Minocqua is a favorite vacation destination for people from all over because of its beauty and the variety of things to do. The year-round population of this quaint community is 5000, but the population nearly triples in the summer months when so many people who love the area return to make the most of the warm season. There are camps and classes for kids and teens, hundreds of lakes to swim or paddle a canoe in, unlimited fishing opportunities and much more.
Since Minocqua is surrounded by forest, there are numerous hiking and biking trails that suit all ability levels, some of which are very close to area resorts and downtown.
Wander the streets and window shop downtown, stop for an ice cream or cold beverage, or just relax, sit in the shade and people-watch. Rent a canoe or kayak, go water-skiing, hang out on a sandy beach, or catch a Min-Aqua Bats show. The Min-Aqua Bats are the oldest non-profit amateur water ski club in the nation, and are a real north woods tradition that you must see if you’re in the area during the summer.
You can also go on a guided fishing trip to secret spots you might not find on your own, and don’t miss the spring and summer arts and crafts shows, the Garden Walk and Ice Cream Social, the Lions Club Golf Scramble, Northwoods Summer Thunder, the 4th of July fireworks and parade, Bluesfest, the Wooden Boat Show, and so much more.
