Back in November of 2009, voters approved a 10,000 square foot renovation project for the Minocqua Public Library, and reorganization and renovations are now underway.
The library will be closed through April 17, and the community center will be closed April 20, but upon reopening Minocqua-area residents can expect to see some significant changes. Furnishings, shelves and books are being moved into the new addition, and the original library space is getting a facelift complete with new paint, carpeting, lighting and more.
New features will include additional space, computers and seating, a larger children's area, a young adult area, a program room and two meeting rooms, accessible restrooms, a drive-up book-drop and book pick-up and 12 new computers for public use.
The expansion is a $1.6 million project funded by the 2009 referendum as well as fundraising and donations from the Friends of the Minocqua Library and the Minocqua Public Library Foundation.
The grand opening of the renovated facility is planned for this summer. While it won’t be part of this phase of renovation, library administrators are optimistic about the possibility of adding an outdoor area in the future.
